4 months old!

Cailyn turned 4 months old yesterday! How did we celebrate? Well...

First, we ("we" actually meaning just Cailyn) woke up super early after sleeping for 11-1/2 hours straight without so much as a peep. Of course she slept well...it was her daddy's turn to get up with her in the middle of the night! Glad she slept well for him, but, not fun that she woke up at 6:30am. As you can see, I gladly handed her off to Daddy who was still wanting to catch a bit o' shut eye! HA!

Next, we pureed some yummy bananas to freeze for when she starts solids in a month or so. Bananas are surprisinly super easy to puree, but they don't freeze as well!

Then, we loaded up the family and took a trip to see the pediatrician...time for another dose of vaccinations! Cailyn is a whopper (but, a well-proportioned one) weighing in at 16 lbs. 9 oz. and 26-1/4 inches long! She's in the 95th percentile for both height and weight...YAY!! She had to get 2 shots and an oral vax. She wasn't really feeling the oral one and only cried for the 2nd shot. She talked the entire way home as if nothing happened and slept like a champ the rest of the day! As you can see, she's hardly phased by all the happenings of the day. "All in a day's work, Mom!"

Josh left to go to the NASCAR race in Richmond this weekend...first time without me and I am so jealous! I thought about making the hour drive to the track on Saturday just to hang out, but then decided it would be better not to...who would want to fight all of that nasty race traffic anyway? Instead, Cailyn and I are going to root for our driver by watching the race in the comforts of our own family room...GO DALE JR!

Rolling Over

So I'm trying to post my very first video of Cailyn. It was taken about 2 weeks ago on 4/17/09...the day she rolled over from her back to her tummy for the first time. She'd already mastered rolling from tummy to back days before...you can tell she's not quite sure what to think when she went the other way!

Man, what a weekend!

Busy, busy, busy! And HOT as heck! While Josh, my dad, and little bro had their guy fishing trip, Cailyn and I went to visit "the farm"...AKA: my parents house. 90 degree days and no A/C...YAY! Cailyn didn't seem phased, though! We were able to visit her Aunt Emy, Uncle Kris, and, Cole and Chase. Cailyn enjoyed a little "tummy time" with the boys...

She also was able to wear the summer outfit her Aunt Emy bought her for Easter...complete with the little hat...she was TOO cute! This is how I found her when we got out of the car at my sister's house...her hat was all off to the side and it looked as if she'd had enough already!

We enjoyed a leisurely late morning/early afternoon on my sis' back porch in the shade...Cailyn really loves being outside!
We had Thai dinner plans...YUMMO...with Cailyn's Omi for Saturday night, but they fell through. Both me and Omi were out of commission with tummy aches...well, actually, mine was a bit more than an upset tummy...more like a really sick headache...YUCK!!! I'd always wondered what I would do if I were sick and had a baby to take care of. Not to worry, though...my niece, Morgan, came to our rescue. She agreed to spend the night and help take care of Cailyn while we were both down and out...and what a FANTASTIC job she did! She played with her, fed her, took her for a walk, and even helped get her ready for bed. Thank goodness Cailyn was cooperative and went to bed without any trouble at all; and, she slept through 'til morning!

So, Cailyn made a new buddy in Morgan...LOVES her! Thanks for helping us out, Morgan. YOU ROCK SISTA!!!

Ream Look-alike Meter

The much debated question has FINALLY been answered! I tried this with 2 different sets of pictures and Cailyn looked more like me by 4% and 3% respectively. Not a whole lot, which may be why people have such a hard time trying to figure out who she looks like more. Let's just say she's a well-balanced combination of the two of us...and we'll leave it at that.

A visit to the Easter Bunny!

We took Cailyn to see the Easter Bunny at the mall on Sunday. I was a bit worried she would freak out and, for a moment, she looked at me like she was saying, "what the heck am I doing sitting on this fuzzy creature's lap?" BUT, she took it like champ!

She looks like she rather enjoyed it...what do you think?

I've got some catching up to do!

I realize it's been awhile since I last posted...busy, busy, busy! Cailyn is growing like a weed! I weighed her using our scale yesterday and she weighs in at a whopping 14-1/2 pounds! What? How did she get to be that big? AND, she just turned 3 months old yesterday! I can't believe it...it seems like yesterday we were waiting around for her to arrive and here she is growing up so fast! How time flies!!

So what's Cailyn doing now?? She smiles ALL of the time...so cute! We love it, but she is definitely NOT photogenic...we can barely catch a smile on camera...but, we are working on it! She is also grabbing for things and has found her hands...she is mesmerized by them! She will stare at 'em in amazement at what they can do. She's learned that she can grab at things, hold them, and make her toys make noises. As of yesterday she is also trying to roll over...YES, roll over! She all of sudden started tilting her head back and arching her back trying to gain the momentum to turn...she's not there yet, but she's workin' on it! Oh yes, and she likes to sing along to the "Old MacDonald" tune that plays on her bouncy seat. She sounds more like an owl hooting, but you can tell she is singing along!

I have officially retired anything sizes 0-3 months and even some 3-6 monthers. Cailyn is officially wearing 6 month clothes...fills 'em out, actually! I'm just hoping that all of those summer clothes in size 6-9 months will actually last until summer! YIKES! Plus, we're currently transitioning her to size 3 diapers...WHAT??

We will be starting our garden this weekend. Weather is supposed to be BEAUTIFUL! Mid-60's and sunny! We will be attempting raised beds this year in hopes that the garden will do much better this year than last. I will be growing some fresh herbs like oregano, thyme, and cilantro; and veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peppers, green beans, and watermelon! I cannot wait! Although, I think I'll have to learn how to can in order to make them last us throughout the year.

Ahh, yes, and I've decided to start making our own baby food for when the time comes for Cailyn to start solid foods. I would like to wait until she is 6 months, but realistically thinking we will probably start when she is 4-5 months old. I made a small batch of avocado last week. I bought a really good recipe book and freezing trays to freeze each portion in small 1-oz. amounts. This may be an interesting venture, but well worth it!
